HARRY JOSEPH GIBBAR, our maternal uncle, was born on February 7, 1932, the youngest son of James Henry Gibbar and Mary Eleanora (nee Belsha) Gibbar and brother of our mother, Rose Anna (nee Gibbar) Bohnert.

On October 12, 1953, Harry enlisted in the Army. According to his sister, Jeanette (nee Gibbar) Brown, he had been in the National Guard prior to his enlistment.

Harry was a Sergeant in Company F of the 140 Infantry, which was part of Missouri National Guard, assigned to the reorganized 35th Infantry Division on June 20, 1946. The regiment was organized in southeast Missouri and its headquarters was at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. 

Harry was discharged from the Army on September 26, 1955 after serving nearly two years. 

On Easter Sunday, April 6th, 1969, Harry Joseph Gibbar died from an injuries received in a farm accident leaving a wife and five young children. At the time of his death, he was 37 years year of age. His wife, Joan Marie (nee Doll) Gibbar applied for and was granted a military headstone for his grave. He is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville, Perry County, Missouri.
