The Civil War

IGNATIUS BOHNERT was our 2x Great Uncle through the Bohnert line. He was born on August 13, 1841, in Renchen, Baden, Germany, the son of Caspar Bohnert and his first wife, Franciska Meyer.

Ignatius entered the Civil War on October 23, 1861 when he joined Company H, Captain P. Wager's Company, of the 4th Simpson's Regiment, Missouri Unit. After serving for 6 months, he was honorably discharged on February 25, 1862 at Ironton, Missouri.​

In August, 1862, he enrolled in Company F, Captain Frentzel's Company (later known as Captain Myers Company) of the 64th Enrolled Missouri Militia Volunteers from which company he was detailed and attached to Captain Eddleman's Co. B.

On April 15, 1863, Ingatius was in Captain Eddleman's Company B of the 8th Provisional Regiment E. of the Missouri Militia Infantry and discharged on November 6, 1863 when the company disbanded.

He then returned to Company F, now Captain Joseph Meyer's Company, of the 64th Enrolled Missouri Militia from September 29, 1864 until about December 1, 1864. Bohnert Family Heritage

Ignatius applied for a disability pension based on his military service in May, 1891. His claim was approved and he received a pension of $12 per month. He died on April 21, 1909 and is buried in ​​​​​​​St. Joseph's Cemetery, Apple Creek, Missouri.
